“My mom had nine kids, and my youngest sibling was two. I didn’t see him again until he was 16, so for me going through that, I knew how important it is for them to see each other and be around each other. When I had my boys before I got the girls, all that they talked about was their sisters.

We met up for visits, and all the kids were crying. They did not want to leave each other, and at that moment, I knew, ok, I have to adopt all five.”

The Adoption case manager Stacey Barton was surprised by the decision. She said, "I’ve never had a single father adopt five children. I’ve had married couples who have adopted six or seven, so this was a unique experience for me. Children need families, and it’s an opportunity for Mr. Carter to show the community that he can do it and others can too."

Mr. Carter expressed his joy and relief, "I’m relieved because I tried to go through the process before. It did not work out, but now I’m just happy that it is over, and I’m their dad for the rest of their lives. I hope that they will never have to go through what they went through again. I am now a father to Marionna, Robert Jr., Makayla, Giovanni, and Kiontae who are between ages 4 and 10. We are making memories to replace a lot of the bad ones. Every night I talk to them and let them know that I’m their dad forever."

We are now looking to buy a new forever home where the kids can learn, play, and grow. a GoFundMe fundraiser is live for anyone who would like to support us.
